There are those who don’t get luck handed to them on a shiny platter, who end up in the wrong place at the wrong time, who don’t get saved.
Luck was not on Callie’s side the day of her twelfth birthday when everything was stolen from her. After it’s all over, she locks up her feelings and vows never to tell anyone what happened. Six years later her painful past consumes her life and most days it’s a struggle just to breathe.
For as long as Kayden can remember, suffering in silence was the only way to survive life. As long as he did what he was told, everything was okay. One night, after making a terrible mistake, it seems like his life might be over. Luck was on his side, though, when Callie coincidentally is in the right place at the right time and saves him.
Now he can’t stop thinking about the girl he saw at school, but never really knew. When he ends up at the same college as Callie, he does everything he can to try to get to know her. But Callie is reserved and closed off. The more he tries to be part of her life, the more he realizes Callie might need to be saved.
Book Heaux’s Rating: 5 Stars!!!!!!
Poor Callie! I knew exactly what happened to her and who did it within the first two pages of the book. What angered me was her parents inability to notice something seriously wrong with their child. I guess its easier to ignore something when the truth is brutal. And then there’s Kayden, his parents are a different level of filth. Any mother who would sit back and watch a man mercilessly beat up on her children (whether or not he is their biological father) does not deserve to be a mother. As mothers it is our job to protect our children from anyone who could potentially harm them, no matter her that person is.
Ok, I’m done ranting…..
This book is in my Top 10! It was beautiful watching Callie come out of her shell, and I love Seth for being the one to help her through that. The list he made for her was my favorite! Like #17: Let something Amazing happen, without Question or Hesitation. OR #43: Face your fears head on and tell them to fuck off!!!! How awesome is Seth?! Everyone needs a friend like him!Kayden’s pursuit of Callie was cute, it was calculated but not creepy! I know he’s trying to help Callie, but he has his own demon’s that he needs to work out in the next book.
“It’s amazing how the things you remember forever are the things you’d rather forget and the things you desperately want to grasp onto seem to slip away like sand in the wind”
This is one of those books that was SO GOOD I wish I would’ve waited for the release of the second part, so I could’ve read them back to back! The cliff hanger at the end of this book HAS TO BE one of the worst I have ever encountered!
