Book Dame’s Rating 4 Stars
I really enjoyed reading this book, I loved how the author wrote it. Ms. Maine told this story in a unique way, a style that was similar to a letter to one’s lover or retelling ones thought to them. The story starts with a chance meeting over a internet interview that leaves 2 lives forever changed. Real estate mogul Merrick Rocha is instantly drawn to Rachael, who is just as curious about him. Rachael has to turn down Mr. Rocha offered of her dream job, because of the obligation she feels to her mother. Merrick knowing how much passion she has for the project, and not used to being denied isn’t ready to let her go. Merrick a man who acts then thinks is at a turning point in his life and so very gentle and sweet with Rachael. He is the opposite of what I assumed the billionaire would be. This story surprised me, I was prepared for a dark story filled with angry and secrets. Instead I found a love story that didn’t center around money, power and doubt. I think Ms. Maine did a great job showing Rachael conflict with herself and the emotions she was trying to suppress. I can always tell how much I am enjoy this book by the range of emotions I go through. And I went through a few with this book, which always leads me to be more connected with the characters and story. I loved how Merrick was so open at times and so sweet with Rachael. Of course Merrick has his faults and I really wanted to smack him with the whole Joan thing. It was a nice change that he didn’t take charge and take over her life, you know besides the whole kidnapping thing. Can’t wait to see where this all leads, on to No Takebacks the next novella with Merrick and Rachael.
“I nod, feeling confident and authoritative. I can bring you – a big, powerful, sexy man – to your knees right now if I wanted.”
