This is a mild dark edge book. I did enjoy it and felt that the author did a great job with it. Especially, being a debut novel for her. When I first started reading, I wasn’t sure if I would like it. I wasn’t sure I liked Tess or Brax, I certainly didn’t like the kidnappers. That being said, I think that was the authors point, not only is unimaginable things happening, but she’s lost with in herself. Holding on to things she may not be happy with. Denying parts of herself, letting fear control her. I felt the characters grow and change. The secrets around weren’t transparent, which keep me on my toes. I was eager to put the pieces together. Excited by the changes they made, and trying to thread everything together. I would love to read more of their story, but half of me is happy where they are. I’m a bit scared something could go wrong. I may need a hand holding reading partner for it. So if you like dark, you wouldn’t want to miss out of this series and the 3rd book is out soon. Plenty of time to read the this and Quintessentially Q. And those of you who have always want to try a dark novel, I think this is a great one to read!
Do you believe in second chances?
This is the story of Quinton Carter and Nova Reed who both had their lives ahead of them until one fateful night changed everything.
Nova is a beautiful, talented drummer with her whole life ahead of her. She’s dating the love of her life, Landon and is insanely happy, but one night something goes incredibly wrong and she hasn’t been the same since. Then she meets Quinton…..who reminds her of a love lost. Why does he remind her so much of the pain? Why does she want to run away from him but run into his arms in the same moment?
Quinton Carter is given a second chance at life; but not without scars. He’s emotionally/physically scarred from a traumatic event that he caused/witnessed. He doesn’t feel as though he deserves to live, so he just exists, swearing off all good things, swearing off happiness….until Nova enters his life. His first instinct is to push her away, but there is an energy that keeps pulling them together. Should he ignore it or should he just believe that good things aren’t supposed to happen to him?
Now they are both lost and trying to find their way. Both are in search of the meaning of something. Maybe what they are looking for all along….is each other.
This is the story of how one moment can change your life forever.

I enjoyed this book very much. The complexities between Quinton and Nova are both intriguing and thought provoking. Throughout the book you are rooting for both of them to start “living” their lives, get over the pain and heal.
There were moments that you felt bad for them, then sad, then angry that they do not seem to value their lives. But on the other side of it, the feeling of being lost and undeserving of a good life is completely understandable when one has been through a traumatic experience.
However, the question you repeatedly ask yourself if: what would I do if all I have felt in the past year is pain? What would I do to help numb the pain?
Quinton and Nova are completely relatable. We are reminded that feeling an emotional pain can turn into a physical ache.
This is Nova’s story about being lost, healing, redemption and becoming whole again. This story teaches the reader that life is all about choices. We are not in control of what happens to us all the time, but we have 100% control of how we deal with it.
Kudos to Jessica Sorensen, who gets into your heart/mind with “real life issues.” You hurt for the character, you love the characters, you get annoyed with the characters but by the end of the book you are rooting for the characters.
I cannot wait to read Quinton’s story next!

Oh, my! This series is killing me! This book turned everything upside down. I finished this book with one thought, how in the world am I liking Joan!!! OMG!!! Seriously! It may have to do this how irritated I was with the other characters. I mean I love Merrick, but hello stubborn man!! He can’t seem to see the big picture!! And Rachael stand up for yourself and stop tiptoeing around. I always suspected that we would get a huge twist, but I didn’t see all the chaos that would take place in between. Nadia made Joan look like a saint. I really want to know how much she really knew and what she was really after. Although, I’m not sure I could take it. I did enjoy this book, it really grabbed me and sucked me in. Even though I wanted smack each of them at a time or two I couldn’t put this book down! Buck up you’re in for a wild ride. Oh, and Kelli I’m almost ready for my Team Joan t-shirt!

Book Dame’s Review 5 Stars
I’ve loved this series for ever. I’m so excited to have read it and be able read it and reread it whenever I want. This story is an emotional one, unique in every way. Heartbreaking and touching, one that I will carry with me.It’s not all doom and gloom. No it’s a beautiful story of an artist that pushes the limits. He puts his art on flesh not canvases and seems to see Tenley like no one has in a long time if ever. He see’s the fragile broken girl but also see’s her strength and the connection they share erases some of the fractured lines in their hearts. The heat they shares has them losing control and breaking rules and barriers.
I escaped into this book, living in the pages as they played out like a movie on a big screen in front of me. Tenley and Hayden were more then characters in a book, they have been friends I lost touch with. Friends who’s lives have experiences challenges and so much. The story they tell – staggered me.
I wanted to scream and yell, and shake them too. Everyone knows secrets are bad, and the longer you hold them in the worse the are, when they come out. Only I too couldn’t bare for the other to know. I mean how do you share something like that, something you know will break you apart and break you down all over again. How can the other understand, when you can barely make sense of it yourself? How can you say the words, when those words will send you spiraling out of control? How do you survive all that? How do you take a deep breath, when every breath you take is the hardest breath you’ve breathed?
Both Tenley and Hayden carry so much guilt around. Both having unbearable pasts, and struggle to come to grips with it all. Both trying to navigating a future that they feel they don’t deserve. I can’t wait to see what the next book holds, I’m counting down.

Feisty’s rating – 5 STARS!!
When I heard that the great Raine Miller was writing a 4th book in the Blackstone Affair series I was really excited but a bit hesitant. I couldn’t imagine where she could go and what a fourth book would look like. I mean, other than finding out if the baby was a Laurel or a Thomas, what else is there? I won’t doubt her AGAIN!! This book was fantastic!
As I sit here and think back over all four books, I can’t help but smile. I absolutely love this couple, and I have from page one. If you’ve read all three of my other reviews, you know how much I love Ethan and Brynne. In this fourth installment, they both grow so much. Ethan finds a way to deal with his past and his nightmares that he’s so desperately trying to free himself of. We get a bit more insight into what happened to him as well. And Brynne hits her past head on to finally put it to rest. The way it’s all handled is perfect. What I adore about these two is that they are real, and mature and loving and sexy. They don’t play games with each other, they don’t constantly push and pull or runaway from each other. They absolutely love each other and adore each other and whatever comes their way, they will handle it as long as they are together. After I finish a romance novel, I often wonder if the people were real, would they actually make it – and these two – there is no doubt in my mind that Ethan and Brynne will be together forever.
Let’s not forget we get to find out the gender of baby Blackstone – and it’s perfect! They will make lovely parents. So many things are wrapped up – things I didn’t even know I wanted conclusions to. There are a few parts where I was like WHAT? I couldn’t believe what was happening. I also like that we saw Ethan in a less that perfect light. I mean let’s face it. Who wouldn’t want a man who caters to us, talks dirty to us, takes over in the bedroom, and is so in love with us we can do no wrong. In this book, Ethan gets irritated with Brynne a few times and at a function acts totally unEthan like, which I loved! He’s fantastic yes, but human – loved it! And Ms. Miller outdoes herself with the sex scenes! I think these might be some of the best! I mean really, really good! 😉 Brynne may be pregnant, but that doesn’t stop them at all!
The love that is shared in this book is so beautiful. I love reading these books. I’m sad their journey is at an end, but I always know just where to find them. I can bask in their story whenever I want. And lets not forget we get a book about Ivan and Gaby so I’m sure the Blackstones will make appearances. I couldn’t have asked for a better and more lovely conclusion to this wonderful journey of two people I wish were real because the world would be lucky to have two such caring, wonderful people.
“In the hours of my darkest kind, Brynne has ever been my light. My lover who saw inside my battered soul and freed me.” – Ethan Blackstone
“I don’t think any of what happened to me in the past year could have occurred if not for Ethan. I believed that with all of my heart. Nobody could have done for me what he did. Only Ethan’s love could have found its way into my desolate heart. Only him.” – Brynne Blackstone
Raine Miller is a New York Times bestselling author who likes to write romantic stories pretty much every chance she gets. She has a handsome husband, and two amazing sons to keep her busy the rest of the time. Her boys know she likes to write stories, but gratefully have never asked to read any. Thank God!
I’ll leave you with a quote from a young man who didn’t live long enough to write more beautiful words for our continued enjoyment, dying tragically at only twenty-five years old. One of the most brilliant romantic poets ever to walk this earth, his words continue to take my breath away. This is from a letter he wrote to his fiance, Fanny Brawne. He died before they could marry.
