Silence is only skin deep.

Nineteen year old Daniel Colton is the guy all the girls want to date, and the man all the guys want to be. Moody, with an explosive temper, closed off and sullen, he’s also beautiful, tatted in delicious ways, with a pierced eyebrow and spiky black hair. It’s rumoured he has piercings in other places, too. Is he really mad, bad and dangerous to know?

Daniel lives with his older brother, Zef, and their home is party central. You want drugs, a good time, liquor, no questions asked? Colton’s is the place to go.

When Daniel and good girl Lisanne Maclaine have to work together on an assignment, Lisanne finds there’s a lot more to the college’s bad boy than his reputation. He’s intelligent and funny and good company. And then she discovers his secret, why he’s so closed off to everyone, and determined to keep people at arms’ length. But being his secret-keeper is harder than she ever dreamed.

Feisty’s Review – 5 stars!!

Of course this book gets 5 stars, Jane wrote it!  🙂  I can’t say much because if I do, I will give away too much and I wouldn’t dream of spoiling anything.  But wow, just wow!!  It’s sometimes hard for me read the YA books where the main characters are nineteen and act like they are my age – you know, late 30s early 40s…  around there!  But leave it to Jane to make me love it!  Of course!  We all know I’m a fan girl and I bug her frequently.  She’s so cool because she lets me bother her and she is always gracious about it!  However, I digress – onto the story.

Daniel Colton is of course gorgeous and tatted and very mysterious.  And completely closed off.  He doesn’t let anyone get close to him and he doesn’t trust anyone.  Until he’s paired with sweet Lisanne Maclaine for a class project.  She finds out he’s smart, and funny and very caring.  She also finds out his secret he hides so well.  And so begins their dance.  They become friends first, then he really begins to trust her and he wants to be with her.  He finds great comfort in her.  And she in him.  He helps her blossom into the strong woman she is destined to become.  She is wonderful with him and for him.  She’s patient and kind and brings him out of his shell and back into life.  The need they have for each other is beautiful.  They fight hard and love even harder.  There is no doubt these two will stand the test of time.  Daniel can’t live without her.  Really he can’t!

“I’m not trying to fix you, Daniel. I just want you to be happy. I love you just the way you are”
“Because you’re kind, and good, and sweet, and funny. Because I feel happy when I am with you. You make me feel protected, safe. You’re everything” – Lisanne aka Baby doll

“Thank you for being you. Thank you for putting up with my punk ass – for being in my life.” – Daniel

Daniel is definitely the main character.  Everything evolves around him and his story.  We get both POVs which I love.  I get frustrated sometimes when I read and I only get the heroine’s POV – I always want to know what the man is thinking!  And boy do we get Daniel’s POV – he holds nothing back.  He has a very dirty mouth that drives Lisanne crazy, in a good way of course!  The secondary characters are great fun!  Lisanne’s younger brother loves Daniel as you can imagine.  Her parents, well, they take some time to come around.  It’s a wonderful story where again, Jane takes you on a journey of discovery and you learn a little about yourself in the process.  How would you treat someone in this situation?  Would you make fun or would you treat them the same as you would anyone else?  She does a fantastic job of causing you to enjoy and fall in love with the characters all the while teaching you something about yourself and others.  You have to read this book because I LOVE THIS AUTHOR!  Take the ride with Daniel and Baby doll, you won’t be sorry!!
